Root Canal Treatment
Root canal treatment is a procedure used to save a tooth that would otherwise need to be taken out. Inside each tooth is soft tissue called the pulp, which contains the nerve and blood supply. If this becomes infected or inflamed, it can cause pain or an abscess. Root canal treatment carefully removes the infected tissue, cleans and disinfects the inside of the tooth, and then seals it to prevent further infection.
The aim is to save and protect your natural teeth wherever possible, so you can avoid needing an extraction.
A dentist with a special interest in endodontics is a general dentist who has had extra training in carrying out root canal treatments. This means they have more experience in dealing with teeth here the nerve or root has become infected or damaged. They can also provide re-treatment, which is when a tooth that has already had a root canal needs further care to help it heal properly.

Periodontal Specialist Treatment
A periodontal specialist, also known as a periodontist, is a dentist who has undertaken additional years of advanced training after dental school to specialise in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases affecting the gums and supporting structures of the teeth. Periodontists are
experts in managing conditions such as gingivitis, periodontitis (gum disease), and gum recession, as well as performing procedures like deep cleaning (scaling and root planning) and gum grafting.
Patients are usually referred to a periodontal specialist when their gum condition is too complex to be managed by a general dentist.
